Answers to All Your Questions

FAQS

WHAT IS TUTORING?

Tutoring is different to school as there is more direct interaction, allowing children the space to shine and address areas of difficulty.

Some children need support in specific areas whereas others benefit from overall support and confidence building in a small group setting.

In some situations, we've been able to tutor groups of friends together where parents have the same need. This can be fun for the children and helpful for parents.

IS 11+ TUTORING RIGHT FOR MY CHILD?

You know your child best and will know what secondary school is likely to suit them.

Within our 11+ course,  we cover elements of the year 5 & 6 curriculum at speed. Tutees need a good grasp of maths and English.

We can help your child with confidence and understanding although we cannot guarantee success in the 11+ examination as this is about personal performance on the day. We look to have an open dialogue with parents throughout the year.

There are useful resources on the Buckinghamshire County Council website with regard to thinking about school choices.

DO YOU HAVE A SPECIFIC TEACHING QUALIFICATION?

At Total Tutoring we believe all our tutors should hold qualified teacher status (QTS) and have relevant educational experience. We are particular in working with tutors we know to have a good manner with children of this age.

In exceptional instances, where an individual need arises, we may call on services from other education professionals.

All of our tutors are DBS checked (safeguarding).

HOW DO YOU CHARGE FOR YOUR TEACHING SERVICES?

When you enrol with Total Tutoring, we require £99 as a non-refundable registration fee. Payment monthly and in advance for courses. There is a one term notice period.

Our 11+ learning is a 11 month commitment and the fee is for the full course.

As Summer school is a single week, there is a payment in full before the school with a deposit earlier in the year.

Payment by Stripe online payments is the preferred payment method.

WHERE DO YOU HOLD YOUR TEACHING SESSIONS?

We run face to face sessions in Bassetsbury Lane, High Wycombe, and online.

HOW DOES ONLINE TUITION DIFFER FROM FACE TO FACE?

We create the same warm, friendly and supportive atmosphere online as we do in our classroom. Tutors and children work from the same books, discussing ideas, sharing answers and explaining methods, just as they would in person. Sometimes we swap pen and paper for Zoom's interactive whiteboards.

Online tuition works particularly well for Key Stage 2 through to GCSE and A-level, thanks to the wealth of digital learning resources available.

Neurodivergence isn't a barrier to online learning, with movement breaks included, our experienced tutors keep a watchful eye on your child's body language to create a supportive learning environment. â€‹

And there's a big bonus for busy families - no travelling! All the same expert teaching and individual attention, from the comfort of home.
